Two trans questions

1. Would a slightly dented (1/8" to 1/4") trans pan cause gear hunting/slipping problems?

I can't imagine it would, but my trans has been acting a little funny since the Pig Gig.

2. Would the 8 year/80,000 mile powertrain warranty I have still cover the trans if it's bad even if the pan is dented?

If the dented pan did cause a problem with the trans, just swap trans pans, than take it in? They will never know haha

The dent is probably restricting the fluid flow. So yes it could make it act funny.

That's kinda what I figured.

Dealership up here has one in stock for $62. Better be safe than sorry.

you could get a b&m aluminum pan and help out the typical dodge heat issue if you feel like spending a little more. I think the hold 2 or 4 extra quarts of fluid to.

I'm glad I got the pan this morning...it's really causing fluid starving issues causing the trans to gear hunt.

Use the Mopar ATF+4.

I've had bad luck after 12,000 miles with different brand ATF+4. I forget the brand, but it had a green bottle.

I just came across this post and that's exactly what I was thinking ... glad you figured it out. I would've been scolded had I driven my Dodge through the course!

Haha, the damage didn't happen on the course at all. It happened out on the trails following CC (bright idea).

I just got done putting the new pan in, along with a new filter. I used the Mopar ATF +4. I was really surprised to see how close the filter is to the pan. Even though the dent was minimal, it was right up against the filter.

I haven't driven it yet, but I'm 100% sure it fixed the issue.

This happened to a friends XJ. Squashed the center of the filter. We beat it flat, replaced the filter and he went on to break many, many more things. Trans was okay, tho.

If you weren't having issues with the tranny before, I'd put money you were blocking a lot of flow/pressure.

btw ... you've lost some weight huh? Keep it up!
