Default File format, problems opening GPS files

I have a Garmin V, have had it for 4 or 5 years now. Nice unit, I like it, I does what I need it to do even though it is WAY outdated now.

But my problems is opening and using current files that people send me or here on the site. I get an error about not having a current program to open these up, anybody else have this issue or know what is needed to fix it?

sounds like you just need to get an updated version of mapsource... you can get this from either buying it from garmin... or if you get the new TOPO dvd its on there... I don't know if it will work for the city navigator or not (if downloaded through topo)

I have a Gar in V as well.

If you have Garmin Mapsource you can download updates from garmin.com.

Otherwise, you the free EasyGPS software will move files on and off of your GPS - but doesn't map.

Get it at http://www.easygps.com/

Start here: http://www8.garmin.com/support/agree.jsp?id=123

You'll need to download their web updater and update your Mapsource product.

Garmin started out using a .mps format. Now they are .gdb

Like said above, download an update & you will be fine.
