Default Odd Question..Is There Any Ball Bearings in the 4.0L

I remember last winter I changed the oil in my Explorer and found a small steel ball bearing in the oil. I have no idea where it came from. It was a while after that that the engine started ticking.
Do the rocker assemblies use ball bearings or needle bearings?

How big was it? Marble? BB?

There's places where some could be, but short of catastrophic failure I'm not entirely sure how they'd get out, but there's lots of things that can happen.

I would pull the rocker covers and check. It will be obvious.

looks like no BB on the rockers, but aparently worn lifters are common

The Only possible place where I can think that here *may* be ball bearings is on the timing chain tensioner - it's a spring tensioner that moves on a pivot...but that'd have needle bearings.

Nothing else internally has ball/needle bearings as I just took one apart and didn't notice anything

Ok. The bearing was smaller than a bb (from the old bb guns). I'll keep looking.

is this an OHV or OHC engine? I'm not sure if they'll have roller lifters, maybe from one of them?

Push rod ball end broke off? Bearings from the throttle assembly? Take a pic of the "BB" and it may help.

I don't have a camera to get a pic right now. This engine is the OHV and does have roller lifters. I tore the engine down and nothing is missing as far as I can tell. It's possible it could have dropped in the drain pan before I changed the oil.
