Default Manistee National Forest questions

I am trying to find information about Manistee National Forest in Michigan. I saw this at Sandy's Korners and they have Jeep Tours but I don't want to pay them if I can do it myself.

The family and I are planning to the end of October for camping and trail riding to check out the fall colors and just relax and have some fun.

Where can I get a trail map? How rough is the terrain? Any other comments/suggestions?

Any other trails around to check out as well? Not looking for anything to tough, just something with a little mud and water or easy trails that the wife would enjoy to check out the fall colors.

Thanks.

Thanks for the links guys. I really like the one from fishweb.com. I am looking for a little more information though. Are all these trails open to jeeps or just atvs and motorcycles? Any of them closed for hunting?

Jeepguy74 - thanks for the offer. I'll see if we have anything going on that day. If not we could possibly make it up for the day. Let me know what time you guys are starting and where.
As far as camping up there, my wife is targeting the week of Oct 15 or just a long weekend of maybe Oct 18-21. I'll let you know when she finally settles on the dates. I would like to have someone show us around and would always welcome someone else or even a group for some trail rides. It is always more fun to meet others and have someone show me where to go and where not to go.

you can always go to www.cadillacjeepers.com and contact any of us there. Our group will show you around, help find the good camp sites and best color tour trails in the Manistee Forrest. As far as the 6th, we're meeting at the dairy pit downtown mesick and leaving Ellen's (BP station) ;where the blessing is held,at 12:00, bring a luch and/or dinner as we'll be eating along the trail somewhere along the Pine River coridor.

we're a family oriented group, my kids 7 and 13 have been going on our rides for the last 7 years. Also most of the jeeps will have 2-3 kids in them.

That's what I figured, but thought I would check anyways. Sometimes group outings can get a bit out of hand, but I have only heard good things about the Cadillac Jeepers so far.

is this meant to be a color tour?

if I trailered my rig up there, would there be a place to park my trailer and truck?

Might try and make this.

Yes it's a color tour, good sites for pics, mud, and playing around.
You can park your truck and trailer at Ellen's where we have the blessing; most of the club will park their trailers there. Hope to see you there.

I'll keep my eyes open; according to Deb, she wants to go from mesick runs trails only(minimal roads) along the corridor then pass it off to you for you neck of the woods then off to mike & sheryl for the return trip. So i guess the section you lead will be open to your interpreration! Good Luck

OK, we're meeting for breakfast at 7-9 am at the dairy pit, and the trailride begins at 10 am. Trailers can be parked at Ellen's. Dairy Pit is on M-115 on North end of town.

sure, I'll be driving mine if I can't buy shocks by then. We will also have a suburban with us , in some spots he takes a while to turn but he follows the jeeps.

On the web site it says that you guys will leave for the tour from the Dairy Pit so will you stop at Ellen's to pick up people also?
