what does the 2L or 2H mean at the end of the #s stanped on the ring gear mean?

after ripping off 8 teeth on my ring gear i found another one for $50 it came on what looks like a factory tracllok carrier but the spyders dont spin are they sapost to move freely? all the #s on the ring gear are the same execpt the date and at the end of the #s the one i took off has 2H and the new one says 2L what does this mean? next can i still use my old pinion or should i change that too? i don't see any damage on it.
thanks aron

If these are for the dana 30, then most likely the L is for low pinion, and H is for high. And no, they cannot be interchanged.

2H = open diff
2L = a locked diff or limited slip.

As long as it is the same gear ratio you should be fine.

Hmm, I'm not an expert, but I wouldn't mix and match.. they are a set, and need to be set up as such.

I'm no expert either, but wouldn't this just be like adding an aftermarket locker?

The pinion and gears have been "broken in" together. If you replace the gears, the pinion will not mate perfectly to them.

Nothing to do with a locker.

AHHHHHHH I wasn't realizing Jesus was talking about the pinion. :miff: But yeah they would need to be kept/ replaced together.
