Default Brake Lights on and weird Pedal!!!!!!.

Hey, I got yet another problem with this truck.lol. Its a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 Sport(5.2L 318). Ok, well every time I hit the brakes the emergency brake light and the ABS brake light comes on. But then if I tap the brake pedal a little bit they both shut off but turn on again as soon as I hit the brakes. Also the brake pedal is really squshy. It doesnt go all the way to the floor but it goes pretty far. It wont lock up the wheels but thats because the pads were only eleven dollors.lol. Anyone got any ideas? I don't. I also dont want my brakes going out.lol. Help please. One more thing is I checked the fluid and it was really low. So I filled it but it didnt make any difference.
Thanks, A.J. Hall

If you can't lock the brakes, even with $11 pads, you have issues. Start by bleeding them.

how about the rear brakes??? thats where your pedal hight comes from maybe a leaking wheelclylinder or some wore out shoes putting all the breaking on the fronts i would start by doing a brake inspection. if its 4 wheel disc then look at the fins in the rotor if they are really rusty then you might be flexing the rotors so replace them maybe

97 rans didn't have rear discs...

IF it ran too low on fluid, it might have sucked air, in which case you should remove the lines and bench bleed it before reattaching and bleeding the whole system

If you pump up the pedal, then hold pressure on it really hard, does it drop ever so slowly back to the floor? If so, your master cyl is bad.

$11 pads will have higher friction than $50 ones at lower temperatures, thats not the issue.

well I looked over the truck before I was going to try and bleed the brakes and it looks like my rear driver side wheel cylinder is leaking fluid. So I would say thats probably the problem.lol. Thanks guys. I appreciate your help.
