Default Alloy Shafts

I think if I am going to continue to wheel the CJ (not this year, but maybe next ) I need to get some alloy shafts for the front of this Scout 44, I've already broke 2 short sides (stock).

Lets discuss! Who/What to buy? I need some thoughts bakced up by real web-truth!

PORC gave me a good price on a set of Alloy USA shafts when I was getting prices for a 44.

Superior stopped making custom size shafts, which also includes anything not chevy

I will be getting some dutchmans in a few weeks and will let you know.

Alloy USA has a great product for a fair price. They ship with Spicer 760's installed as well.

If I break down and get a set I will go with those... mine is a custom app though. Yours may be off the shelf.

Depending on the year of the Scout axle, it may narrow it down to where you get it from. I needed a short side inner shaft and either Alloy didn't make it or you had to buy it with the outer. I got one from Yukon for pretty dirt cheap.

a little OT but do you guys think when sourcing shafts one should be concerned with rolled splines vs machined?
I haven't ever seen one actually fracture on the splines but that seems to be superior's selling point

I always see the ears bust from a u-joint failure...yeah me and my buddies need to man up and get some CTMs and maybe we will see a spline failure

in a perfect axleshaft the ears should be strong enough so that the "splines" are the weak point. when the spline diameter becomes the weak point it then becomes evident which spline forming method is better. high quality shafts have a diameter on them that is somewhere between the overall and root diameter of the splines, this allows the shaft to twist and wind up. when a shaft can do that it is as strong as it is going to get design wise. after that material and processing show through.

rolled splines are good but there are other factors to consider before choosing rolled vs. cut splines, quality control would be first on my list. money is always another factor.
