Accessing Engine Codes on Ford

It's a 1992 Ford Explorer. How does one retrieve the engine codes on this motor?

You can buy those cheap code readers. Is it ODI2? If it is the old style with the 2 connectors under the hood. There is a way to use a multimeter and jumper a wire.

Is the fuel pump kicking on?
if not, get a BFH and hit the damn tank, try rotating the key switch about 400 times also.
gay exploders are common for this.
Could also be the fuel pump relay. ohm out the contacts.
If it wont start, odds are pulling the codes wont do much for ya

good luck

The '94 Tempo I just sold has the same code test and the CES light flashed along with the meter needle sweeps.
It can be tricky trying to count the sweeps of a meter. FYI, the meter sweeps don't go the full distance of the meters guage. The first sweep goes all the way, then the needle stays in the upper range and bounces with the pulses.
