I've been looking, longingly, at an ECTED as well. I have an Aussie in my D30 but want something for my D35. Yeah...I know...get rid of the D35. But I am running 32s with no intention of going bigger...and I don't wheel extremely hard (but I did have to use my winch for the first time in August). The combination LS and electric locker has my interest piqued. I have onboard air but it is 90-140 psi...too high for an ARB (which is too expensive for my use and o-ring dependant or prone to air leaks from user testimonies I've read).

CC-let us know how that e-locker works for you. I know you'll wheel it hard.

atleast throw in an 8.8

if i remeber right you have 4:10's which you will find in a stock 8.8. you will have 200 or less into the axle plus 40 dollars setting it up for new leaf mounts. then lock that

ARB is the best selectable out there... really no contest on that one. Poor installs are 99.9% of peoples problem with them.

32's on a locked d35 should be just fine. But honestly with a YJ and 8.8 swap is so easy I would do that before I locked a 35. Not only will it add to resale value, you will never have to worry about a broken shaft.

i'm running an auburn ECTED. sweet locker. i read on page one or something that somebody was worried about it releasing at a certain load. my understanding is that it's designed to do that to minimize possible breakage. my wife has only managed once to overcome the locker and it was due to me not putting the correct amount of additive after a fluid change.
here's a link to a discussion on the ECTED that started during my installation. ignore the first few complaints. i was having a bad day and being stupid during the install. i would do it again in a heartbeat, and my wife wants a ECTED for the front. i'm actually considering one myself.

Default Detroit in front....

Sorry to stir up an old thread, but this one had a lot of good discussion, but I still have a question for those who run a Detroit up front.

Do any of you run it on the street in 4wd in the winter? If so any comments?

My rig: CJ-8, built 401, 4 speed, 33" BFG MT's

Use: This is not a trailer queen, I think nothing of loading the family and gear and heading to the UP or Canada for 1200+ miles of street/forest roads/wheeling adventure. Snow, sand, mud and rocks.

I am used to wheeling my CJ-2A locked front/rear and hate not having something in the front of my CJ-8. So I am building a D44 rather than upgrading the D30. Considering a Detroit Locker. (I bought it for the rear and planned to run a Trac-Lock in the front....I had laying around, but now I am reconsidering after reading this thread and its links. I currently have a spool in the rear and while it handles great for the most part, I am tired of the tire wear and the "push" in the corners.) So after much thought and study, I am looking at ditching the Trac-lock, putting my Detroit in the front, and maybe picking up another Detriot for the rear. (I have the tear into the rear anyway to change gear ratio.)

Any comments and suggestions would be appreciated.
