This thread wouldn't exist if you just went "ok Kerwin, convince yourself of whatever you want, just remember you aren't the only opinion out there and you should respect others' just as you expect us to give a shit what you think"
Lotsa good arguements here, and I'm sure DK is a great guy, but I think he needs to stop being the chief woohoo of religion. Oh, and that IS my $.02 on a thread I don't care about, f'ing sue me, I'm bored at work.

They are the same one and true God. Just brought by different people. I call Jesus my savior while they call the Mo man their prophet but the same God in both instances. So sure . . Yahweh, El, Allah, or Alpha and Omega as he likes to call himself.

I am not talking about religion, I am talking about one fish. If you think I am talking about religion, then you did not read this thread.

Further, if I am wrong, show me. I presented a progressional logical argument, to which no one presented an counter. If I am wrong, I want to know it, but I don't want to be presented with false data. I am not attacking anyone here, I asked for the scientific community as a whole to be honest about their misjudgement on one fish.

my whole problem with it is...why would an all powerful all knowing god leave it up to other humans to convince people of his/her/its existance? He is damning us forever to the bowels of hell because we didn't believe a book written by other humans, and humans with funny hats telling us stories about him/her/it, when they themselves have never seen or heard from god, and even if they claim to have, could be lying. answer that. k thx bye.

i know you'll say faith, but that is faith in the stories told by humans, not in god. You're hoping that he/she/it exists.

Read the books of the apostle's and maybe that will help in your search.

But they don't talk about evolution . . . just to get back on topic

Ah yes. Kinda like Bigfoot, or Yeti, or Sasquatch. It doesn't really matter what you call them, because nobody has ever seen them anyway. But some will argue till death that they exist.

I have been after a good fish fry but have not seen one. If the ceolocanth was over 100lbs, that would be lots of meals, but judging by its looks, it probaby is worse than cat fish.

So what...does that mean that then there were a few that just didn't want to walk on land and stopped half way through growing legs? There are many fish that have fins like that that they use to "stand" on the bottom of the ocean hiding.

They are considering a statistical destribution in the behavior of the fish. Invariabley a majority of the fish stayed in the water, in the habitat that was condusive to the fish with legs look. Most likely the population was spread over a variety of environments, some favoring the land, and some favoring the water.

The fish w/ legs that favored the land would evolve towards land animals, like turtles and frogs. The fish that favored the water would evolve towards ocean animals, like fish.

This difference in habitat would lead to a 'normal distribution' if you will of evolution. As the smaller groups of animals on either side of the average evolved further and further they became more specialized and branched into thier own 'family trees' in the evolutionary chain.

In the end, very few fish actually stayed in the optimal environment for the fish/ legs look, and they survived. The diversity thier features originally allowed for gave the breed the heartiness they needed to evolve into countless other animals with different features.

DUH!

As far as the human from apes thing goes I look at it like this. There is a gene that controls everything from your posture, to your height, to the dimensions of each bone and bulge in your body. If the bulge of muslce on the end of your hand gives you an advantage in life it will grow slowly throughout generations and become another pinky. ( or a birth defect becomes usefull maybe ? )

Like someone mentioned earlier, in 200 years americans have become taller. if, millions of years ago apes found it useful to be taller, their posture became more upright as a result of thier activity, suddenly, apes who stand upright are more attractive as mates and tall genes become more prevelant. This trend continues until the apes posture straightens and the gene line become more concentrated towards apes with longer bones and more height. As motor skills develop so does facial structures and intelligence. after a few million years BOOM humans.

There is evidence of humans who were hunched over and shorter, with more hair from millions of years ago, the chain is there, just clouded with questions and uncertainty.

Not gonna quote the above but the problem all along with the theory is that the scientists used these fish as the "proof" in the fossils. They said LOOK, these fish have proto-legs and it is clear that this is the missing link from fish to land animals. They said the fact that they are extinct is part of the proof that they evolved onto land.

Well lookie there, they aren't extinct and they haven't changed at all in the past millions of years. They are exactly like they are in the fossil.

The next part of your argument....some evolved and some didn't. That doesn't fit with normal evolutionary theory. So you are saying that some of them evolved to breath air, drop scales, turn warm blooded, and live on the land.........yet others simply moved to the deepest part of the ocean and stopped evolving.

I look at the evidence and I still don't even see what apes evolved from. Why are there fossils of the final stages of the evolution but never any of the in between fossils?

mikesova, you said:

Because that's how it works. It's all about free will and choice. We have covered this several hundred times and you always ask the same stupid question. Get over it.

Ditchdigger, you said:

The different dogs didn't evolve. They were selectively bred by humans for different traits. Like my dog, an English Setter. The English Setter dog breed originated initially in France with the crossing of the Spanish and French pointers nearly 500 years ago. Then it was brought to England in the 1600s and was further modified with the addition of the Water Spaniel and the Springer Spaniel.

Selective breeding is different than growing a set of gills because it would be cool to be able to breath under water.
