Default lockers air,cable,electric

Im troubled with what kind of locker to put in my truck I know I need to put a "posi" in the rear diff but the front is a diffrent issue my truck dosnt stt the trail's too much but I would like the traction when needed all the 3 air,cab,ele sound good but im sure they all have there problems any sugestions would be helpful

It would help if you mentioned what truck you have, and what axle type you are specifically looking to lock. Not all of those options are available for all axles....

I have a 84' 1/2 ton suburban with a 10 bolt in the reat and a 12 bolt up front dose that help? I know it's stock

They are probably both 10 bolts. Just weld it.

If the rear is larger than the front, you have a 10-bolt front and a 12-bolt rear. I think we determined that in a previous thread.

If you don't wheel that often and drive mostly on the street, a limited slip is also an option for your front. 10-bolts are the same front & rear and your gear ratio is very common among Chevy trucks. So, you can probably score one used pretty cheap and just rebuild it if necessary.

I wouldn't bother with a front locker in your truck unless you're ready to re-gear also. You should also think about how much money you really want to dump into a 10-bolt front in such a heavy vehicle.

uhh, thats news to me. I know numerous people running welded 44's, even on stock shafts, no issues.

now that I'm sitting on CA shafts, and hardcore u-joints, I'm not worried about anything except for the lockouts.

I smell BS 95geo..
If I had a dollar for everytime I've seen a lincoln locked 44 front hold up I'd be a freakin millionaire.

a welded dana 44 front breaks because the shafts arent strong enough to be stressed that much without relieving some of it (a locker unlocking). bigger axles can handle it because traction will give before a shaft will.

picture turning a corner then climing an obsticle with the outside tire. the outer tire wants to travel further because it travels in a larger arc than the inner, this causes the front axle to bind up. then start to put power to the tires and this is added to the force that is already put on the alxe shafts from the turn and now your trying to pull the truck with it.

when you understand the logic it isnt stupid.

Sure.

But you can go through all the axles. How about a 30? You can weld those, and run 35's on them. Some people never break them.

You made a post saying I would constantly break 44 shafts because of a welded locker, and I will disagree with you.

I had prety much the same setup as biohazardbill. We went on a lot of trips. He broke every time, I rarely did.

The difference, driving styles. Even though I always made it where he did, and after he broke, I continued on.

you are correct, I made a post saying YOU will continue to break a dana 44 front axle given that: it is welded, on 37s that have a lot of traction and you have a healthy v8 powering it.

How many more times will you break it before swapping in a 60?
