Thanks for the forms! I was about to start a search for them. However, I'm wondering about my particular vehicle. It's a 1976 CJ5 that I have a clear Michigan title for. I have the original VIN plate and stickers. That's all the original sheet metal I have. The state deems a vehicle to be 'Assembled' if you swap a different body on it. I can see this as the 'new' body may have it's own VIN identification. My body doesn't as it was produced from OEM stampings into a complete tub.

I'm considering just keeping the stock VIN plate in the vehicle (it's starting to fall apart), rather than re-attach it to the firewall (which I think is illegal). I'd really like to just engrave or stamp a replacement on a piece of brass (which is also probably illegal). Or perhaps not attach or retain anything inside the Jeep other than the registration and proof of insurance. I mean, really, how many times do the police actually check VIN's from the vehicle? They usually just run the registration. But with my luck...

I'm not concerned about getting a registration for the vehicle with the clear title and proof of insurance....Just wonder if anyone has ever had to deal with this situation.

Okay...So what was the outcome? If you don't have a title, you can't get a registration and plate. How did you get the plate?

since you didn't reuse another body and you just mounted new parts, show the reciepts to the state police in lansing and they should reattach the old vin for you.

That's the problem...The original VIN tag is ready to disappear from rust. I've blasted it and put a coat of paint on it, but it's pretty nasty looking. I'm thinking that the assembled vehicle VIN is some sort of stick-on thing? Or do they rivet it to the body?
