I have a customer with a Dell M90 notebook. The damn thing has every port known to man on it and not a god damn pcmcia slot. It has an express slot 54mm. Unfortunately the guy has a Sprint card he uses frequently thats pcmcia. Changing the card isn't an option so I need to find an adapter. I was think usb to pcmcia just like the card readers but haven't had any luck yet.
time to spend a couple of bucks and get a new laptop?
edit hit send too soon.
there are as you stated pcmcia <> USB adapters out there e.g. http://www.elandigitalsystems.com/usb/u111.php but way back when we first networked our shitty old NEC laptops here we had to do something similar for the actual wired network, and the longevity on the connection points wasn't that great.
i would imagine that when in "mobile mode" on the road, lounge, etc. with a laptop, that having his card dangling/bouncing about like that would create the potential for similar failures, and connection drops.
yeah, like that CC...frigging purchasing rules now
