Common misconception. The role of a pastor is to lead people spiritually. A Priest is also a Pastor. The terms are not mutually exclusive, they are complimentary.

And in defense of my Catholic brothers and sisters, not all Priests have sexual demons in their closets. Yeah, it was a problem, yeah it was brought out, and yeah, the offenders were dealt with correctlyl. Let it go you haters!

I disagree 100% with the statement quoted in red! What, they were relocated and then almost forgotten about...... it wasn't until the legal system and the public media was involved, was there any thing done to the offending Priests!

I'd rather not say what I would have done to them, because if it ever happens to my children, it would be considered premeditated!

As long as they say a few hail mary's all is good. Remember, their religon says as long as you admit it and say a few phrases you can pretty much do anything you want.

You have to actually feel sorry for what you've done tho.

I agree, but how many accually do? If they did there wouldn't be so many repeat offenders(not just the pedophile/priest thing, but all).

not really...... Its kinda like AA meetings........
You have understand what you did to sin was wrong and why..... You have to be Truely sorry of your actions....... and in order for that to happen one must not intentionally or knowingly go into actions committing sin......

its more than just going to confession to be saved

I don't think it is a white wash. On the news you only hear about planes that crash. They don't report tens of thousands of stories on a daily basis of successfully landed planes. So if you were looking at it rightfully, you would agree that only the troublesome sickos got attention, not the faithful and honorable Pastors.

I was speaking about THIS point in time. If this discussion about the Pope came up during the whole mess, I would have said nothing about the sicko priests because it was not dealt with. I agree it took outside influence, which was wrong, but at this time my understanding is that it has been corrected.

Preach it!

One thing is for sure, on judgement day God will take care of those who abused his children. He will be just.

You are correct. If someone doesnt truely feel sorry for what they have done there would not be as many repeat offenders. This is why I disagree with rehabilitating people instead of sending them to jail. Because you can fake like your sorry and then pass all their tests and they say your good but as soon as you get out their old ways come back.

I understand how it is "suppose" to work, but most that I have met just go through the motions. Example, my catholic ex-wife is a perfect example of that mentality. She get caught screwing 3 of my "friends" (not all at once, at least) and felt that since she said that she was sorry and confessed(after being caught) all should be forgotten.

I'm not saying that all catholics are this way, but from my expierence, most are. Accually, most religions are this way. As far as using or following the rules that they want to. Look at sglide, hard to believe he is such a devout christian.

It would be so much better if he just prevented their pain though.

Yes, some people use their religion as an excuse for what they do.

It would, but why he does not do that for everyone I don't understand. We live in a very sinful world and we have the choices to obey God or not. We have choices to harm others or bring life to others.
