Default v8 swap

Im thinking of doing a 302 or 351 swap into my 88 bronco II. I want to retain my stock bw1350 t-case but really dont wanna spend the money for an adaptor plate.

What trans will bolt up to the 1350 without an adaptor plate? Im still not sure if i want an auto or manual trans.

Feel free to post up some tips in doing the swap!

i think what he is trying to say is that you shouldnt even attempt it if you cannt do a little research online about what mates to what and what not.. if that is beyond you then how are you going to swap in a small block ????

Try to find a early 80's C5 tranny with the correct tail housing and shaft to bolt to your 1350, they are kind of hard to find. My truck has a C5 tranny with a C4 bellhousing, converter, and valvebody which basically makes it a C4 with a couple small differences. I will see what I can come up with.

Try and find a 83-85 Ranger or B2 with a auto tranny, More than likely it will be a C5. I am not positive on any of this info but I have read it in the past. You can either use the C5, or you can use the tail housing and tail shaft from the C5 on a C4 (have a shop do that). I give you credit for the things you are trying to do, hell for what you have already done by making your rig a 4x4. If you need info on this swap check out The Ranger Station, they have some good articles. If you have any other questions just shoot me a pm and I'll help you out however I can .

I just did mine not too long ago pretty easy let me know when you need to know and i will tell you. i used a c6 which was mated to a bw 1356 but is to wide for frame, so i picked up a np205 which bolts directly to the 1356 adapter just have to get a small spot drilled out(my buddy did that at a machine shop) But just let me know what you need and ill try and help ya. Cheers Mike

Yes you can use the tail housing from a C5 on a C4 trans to mate it to your stock T-case in the stock location. Thats what I did when I swapped a 302 into a 84 BII. It was originally a 2.8l with a C5 auto. I had the C5 tail housing swapped onto a C4 trans and everything bolted into the stock location
Also I have a early 80's 302 long block in good shape for $150.

may be getting a 351m next week. I did some research and i want to know if this setup will work. Mate a c5 tailhousing to a c4 tranny as well as a big block bellhousing to fit the 351m.

Are all c4 trans floor shift? I need a floor shift version.

Don't try and put an M motor in your truck :miff: they are too big and bulky, stick to the 302 or 351w. For the price of that bellhousing on Ebay you can buy a good Performance Automatic Ultrabell for a small Ford that is good for a 164 or 157 tooth flexplate and they are indestructable (thats what I have). Get a 302 it is the easiest swap to do due to its size. Get an aftermarket b&m shifter with a cable and put your shifter on the floor.

alright sounds like the M motor is bigger than the W. Ill stick with the 302 then because of its smaller size.
