And the carbon spikes they did see in the past were over thousands of years not a few decades. Only a fool would say all our burning of millions and millions of tons of Carbon based fuels has NO effect on the planet.

I guess when Manhatten is under 20 feet of water in 40-60 years people will still say it's only part of the natural histoy of this planet.............Sure ok
Heres some data going back 175 years: http://cdiac.ornl.gov/ftp/trends/co2....smoothed.yr20
that says that the concentration of CO2 is about 1.34 times what it was in 1832. (current concentration is around 383ppm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth's_atmosphere)

So yes it is higher but not "many thousands of times higher".

Also, the methods they use to determine these historical data does not give them the ability to determine whether the temperature changes happened over decades or thousands of years. They simply do not have data that can be broken down decade by decade for 600,000 years.

Now take a look at this data...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:I...emperature.png

As I look through these charts and graphs a few things seem apparent...

1. temperatures have been fluctuating since the planet was formed.
2. "ice ages" seem to usually last about 100,000 years followed by brief, 10,000 year long warming. The current warming has lasted for about 10,000 year, during which modern man has emerged.

I agree that it's foolish to think that you can burn things like theres no tomorrow and expect it to not affect the atmosphere. I also agree that we need to be looking for alternative sources of energy, but not so much because of global warming but because eventually we will run out of things to burn.

But I also think it's to early to close the case and convict the human race on the subject of global warming. There is way to much that we don't know about the world we live in to make any definite conclusions on the subject. For all we know we may have saved the world from another ice age by keeping the planet artificially warm.

HAHAHAHAH

People who believe in global warming make me laugh. I am sure they also believe in the tooth fairy and santa clause to.

When I get to my office on Monday, I will post the quote from Bob Lutz on the absurdity of global warming....and I am sure he has access to a lot more data than mud girls (?) hippie professors.

On a side note, I worry about todays students. College is supposed to teach them to think, but all they do is regurgitate things their profs tell them.

Also mud girl (?) if science was not your major, how did you take all these advanced classes? Advanced classes (400 level) are for those in that field....although I would hardly consider any undergrad course as "advanced"

Time for Common Sense

The global warming scare has enabled environmental advocacy groups to raise billions of dollars in contributions and government grants. It has given politicians (from Al Gore down) opportunities to pose as prophets of doom and slayers of evil corporations. And it has given bureaucrats at all levels of government, from the United Nations to city councils, powers that threaten our jobs and individual liberty.

It is time for common sense to return to the debate over protecting the environment. An excellent first step would be to end the “global warming” scam.

Yawn.

Better yet, let's actually believe that polar ice caps are gonna melt causing wide spread chaos within the next 50-100 years. I mean, it's more far fetched than moving to the moon, but it makes for a better story.

People don't actually buy into this crap hook line and sinker do they??? Oh wait... their professors of lower learning were able to give them some real, unbiased knowledge that is to be accepted as fact and without further debate

My not that I expect anyone to care.

Global Warming: Hoax or Catastrophic Global Disaster

Um, nobody fu@#!king knows. They've never known. They're basing their opinions on recent data and core samples of what [they think] happened in the past. They THINK they can predict what's going to happen and feel they have a pretty good grasp on what's going on. Much like the makers of DDT thought it wouldn't be harmful to the environment. Hell the same people in the EPA that said "Hell YES! This stuff is GREAT!" are the same folks that are saying, "Break out the surfboards because we're gonna lose hundreds of miles of coastline." Truth is THEY DON'T KNOW. They act like they know because its their job to know. Who's going to pay a scientist that says, "Um, lets just wait and see..."?

Truth of the matter is, this planet has an expiration date. It's gonna happen. Not in my lifetime, not in my child's lifetime hopefully but eventually the big furnace is gonna take a crap and Lowe's doesn't carry parts for it.

Humans ARE having an impact on the environment. It's true, you can see it every day. Little example for you that I hear about EVERY damn month. The Desert Tortoise is an endangered little guy that we have here on our base. Protected to all hell this little fellow is. If we see one, we have to stop training. Most powerful military on the planet, and a turtle brings it all to a halt while we watch him cross the road for an hour. Every month, they count the little bastards, and count how many carcass' they find as well. This month's count was 297. That's down three from last month. Although occasionally one of these little fellers finds his way under a tank, it wasn't humans that killed these three soup candidates. No, it was their number one natural predator...the Raven. The human influence part of this little story is that the Ravens have been reproducing in record numbers here because they eat out of the dumpsters and the little rodents and what-not that also feed on the lawns & trash produced by the base. Well we cannot kill the ravens as they are protected as well under the Migrating Bird Act. So this species will become extinct I guarantee it, but we're just going to watch them go and call it 'natural selection'.

Natural Selection...humans fall into that as well. If we're the cause of our own demise, then it's natural selection isn't it? Which is what? Anyone? The WAY NATURE WORKS.

It all balances out in the end.

[/rant]

Oh, and I REALLY dislike when these little college students try to say that anyone NOT in college or currently banging their professor to pass calculus (not implying that anyone is) doesn't have an 'educated opinion'. An 'educated opinion' these days seems to be the regurgitated opinion of their biased professors. They don't seem to be able to make their own assessments, base their opions on anything except what their left wing "oh my god he's so smart" professor says. I honestly feel that until you get out of college, experience some life and figure out how to tell B.S. from what's really going on then YOU don't have an 'educated opinion'.

Do you have any idea how many lives would be saved if they would start using DDT again.
