Default I think I'm going to build me one of these at work tomorrow.

since my natural gas powered potato launcher is getting to be boring, and the flame thrower is slightly to dangerous to use
on a normal basis.

I've decided to build a tesla coil. these things are easy to build.. and It can shoot bolts of electricity about 8'.

I have a few schematics somewhere around here.. Flyback transformers out of CRT tubes can be used to do this..

An 8 foot spark takes a hell of a lot of power, though..

We've built some small types to make 1-2" sparks for EMC testing.. nothing big. I think 75kV is all..

I built one about 4 years ago for my halloween setup...gotta keep the kids away from that one. It rides the poles up about 20 inches and is about a foot apart at the top. My wife is terrified of it...

A neon transformer is also a fun way to "poke" your grounded friends
