Macbook; no more crashes, no more bluescreens, no need for antivirus, no spyware problems, runs Office, can run Windows in a window if you really need to for some reason

HP zd8205us
A fine machine. 2 years old and not a single issue. plays WoW and browses the net like a muuug.

O ya, gosh... no crashes or blue screens or virus problems either. Amazing!

I loved my old HP, I can't remember the model but I recommend the brand. I hated my toshiba, I sent it in for waranty work three times and it still never quite worked right. I may be getting an acer aspire this week but I have no experience with them. The biggest complaint I have seen so far is that there bulky, we'll find out.

macs are safe from regular viruses and stuff, but people are starting to create more viruses for macs.

Your never safe unless you have protection.

I bought an ACER Aspire 3004WLCi 2 years ago... I love it. Battery life is shorter then I would like, but it has been very reliable so far.

I'd say a toughbook. My HP didn't handle a year of trucking too well, not that college will be that hard on it.

3 motherboards
2 hard drives
a couple keyboards
3 batteries
a screen
cracked case (my fault)
2 broken plugs for for the ac adapter

I think thats about it.
Albeit, with the extended service plan, everything was taken care of very quickly, but its still a pain in the ass when your computer breaks

When people ask me at work which one to buy I tell them: Go to the store and see what's in your budget range then write down some model numbers. Go home and search Google with "[model] bad", "[model] broke", "[model] sucks", etc. (You get the idea.)

Unless it's so new that you're getting some of the first units, the common failure issues almost always get posted online.

If they're a "buy online" kind of shopper I tell them: Since late '05, we've had the lowest failure rates w/Dell Latitude series crap-tops... many hundreds of those deployed... common failure is battery which should be expected since they're usually only good for 1-2 years anyway.

I have a Gateway CX2618 Tablet. Love it for school. I really have no complaints. Takes notes right on the screen and so much more. I have been an avid Gateway hater due to people I know whom have Gateway desktop being big pieces of shit, but about 1.5yrs later and no problems yet *knock on wood.*

I am a Gateway hater. My laptop was in the service shop more then in my possession. I finally filed suit and got a new one in a settlement, of which was a POS too.

I guess I'm lucky that I've never had a big problem with Dells. I've used them for work, and used it constantly. My computers are on pretty much 24/7 unless I'm on an airplane or driving. Never had a problem.

Currently I have a IBM Thinkpad T43p (for the last year and a half). Again, no problems.
