I have put 185K and 245K on two seperate Jeeps (97' ZJ and a 96' XJ) and only had to fix the following....

XJ-
Thermostat
Fuel pump

ZJ-
Water pump
Exhaust Manifold

The ZJ was/is a daily driver and the XJ is open in the front so it's spent most of its life bouncing off the rev limiter .

140k? I would not hesitate much on 140k. Many many many 4.0s have gone 300k with no issue except the standard oil in the air filter.

Mine in my XJ went 307k before the tear down for the stroker and it was still running at that time.

As long as proper maintenance has been done, 140k isn't all that much. Depends on how much money for the rig too.

Sure I'd "consider purchasing" it. But I'd need way more information if you want to know if I could consider purchasing this particular vehicle in your particular situation.

those miles are nothing for the 4.0. But, you'd have to hear it run to see if it has any valve ticks and such....

i bought my 88 with the 4.2L and it had around 90k and had really vad lifter tick and smoked.

So if it was taken care of than should have no problem.

I would be more worried about loose bushings and bad ujoints and bearings before the motor.

You should let the mfg know at the key miles, 250, 300, 350, etc.. some of them have high miles clubs and send you jackets and stuff.

My hubby worked on all the Royal Oak postal jeeps. He didn't hesitate when we bought my 97 wrangler. He said that engine will run forever.

As long as has been taken care of, it will be just fine.

X2, I bought my current TJ with 250k on it. The motor had been swapped for a slightly newer one with 75k on it, now the jeep has 300k and the motor has 125 with no ticks. it was well maintained- I got all the records with it.

when we still had them around it wasn't uncommon to see one coming off the rolls with 400,000 to 500,000 miles on them. we only fix what broke and kept them running forever.
