Default 3.45 to 4.56

i have an 88 bronco II and gettin new gears. Im running 33" tires and getting 4:56 gears. Right now its really hard to get up to highway speed. Driving in the city is hard, my current 3:45 ratio just isnt enough to power the tires. What can i expect from the new 4:56 gears?

i have the 2.9L and 3.45's and 33's and i really don't have any problems on street, i drove it with this set-up from GR to Paradise and back at 70mph with no problems........

is it an auto or stick?

but going from 3.45 to 4.56 will be a big difference

i went from 3.73 to 4.88 and it was an amazing difference for the better

its a stick, i can get it up to 80 on a downhill but on flat i can get it up to 65-70 struggling. Uphill 55 mph which sucks because i gotta downshift back to 4th gear all the time.

broncos have a fuse that is enclosed in a sealed rubber housing coming off the battery. the fuses are know to go bad. they let enough voltage go through to keep the truck running but doesnt let it feed enough fuel for full power. i had an 86 bronco that would only hit 70 down hill or behind a semi wouldnt climb over a speed bump let alone a hill. i was tipped off to the fuse problem from a buddy and sure enough my fuel pump was only getting 8 volts. cut the fuse out and put a new one in and it ran like a raped ape and climb hills fantastic. good luck ps change the gears too much more fun. i am changing mine soon.

alot of ppl reccommend 4:56 gears with 33" tires so idk really 4:10's or 4:56. If 4:10's would work well then i could find a d35 and 8.8 from the junkyard with 4:10's in em and do it the easy way.

thx for the tip. Can u be more detailed as to where the fuse is. Are u taking about where the positive battery cable comes off the battery and connects to an electrical black things bolted to the fender?

I would still put in the 4.56 cause you know that some day you will put on bigger tires.

STAY WITH 4.56!!!!!!!!!!! I've got the 4.0 and almost wish I would have went with the 5.13's

That said - there is a "supposed" carrier break for the front D35 axle said to be at 3.55's - I think a lot of this rumor is because of jeep rear 35's having this carrier break......I went from 3.27's to 4.56's and used the same carrier, so if you hear that rumor, it ain't true from my personal experience unless you get the D35 hybrid axle (and even then I don't know if it's true)
