Tim,
Why didn't you rebuild if for him? It's about an hour job if you have parts in hand. He wouldn't have even been half way home by then.

Mostly no parts. And he didn't bring the control arm bushings. That axle was moving so much, it was fully collapsing the slip area on the drive shaft and jamming the shaft together.

That brings me to another thought...what would I order parts for (vehicle type) to get the correct ball and socket thingy? Something to think about now that I have a CV shaft. I'll have to look into that.

I didn't catch the part about the control arm bushings.

I don't know if there are a bunch of different balls for CV's or not. I have just taken the parts up to the auto parts & they had them. Never bothered to ask the specifics.

I'm thinking that might be a good thing to have in the spare parts bag. I'll have to figure it out since I can't ask Ann Arbor Driveshaft anymore.

I believe it is a standard issue general motors half ton pick up truck CV joint from a front driveshaft circa mid 80's.....

I can't remember, but when I had a tom woods shaft I called and asked and he told me exactly what vehicle it referenced to so i could get it at autozone.

So Tim, let me get this right......

You start a thread titled "The Latest Creation from MuddyPaws Off-Road"

But, you didn't build the lid, build the fenders, paint it, or wire it?

Wouldn't a more accurate title for this thread be "Well, I cut the spring mounts off, and was the last link in a chain of fabricators to work on this, and seeing that it was picked up from my shop I will take full credit?"

Never claimed to do the lid. Said several times the fucking fenders were stock...I wantd to build new but the owner didn't. I had to re-wire the thing. And yea, i simply cut off the springs. Did you not notice all the framework, skid plating, mounts, receiver, individual tortion axles and rollers that we did? Not to mention the lift strut mount system we designed and have yet to install.

We have a ton of hours into this thing, so kiss off. We're pretty happy with what we did.

Why did you have to rewire it? I know all the wires were run in brake line tubing and the connections were siliconed for waterproofing.

I also know that when T-way was mounting the rollers on the back he drilled into his wiring. Did you put different ones on than the ones T-way had installed?
