Default Joining a club...

I am pushing myself to get my toyota running so I can at least make the Pig gig this year, I will be purchasing a ticket tonight and I may just buy a membership to this site. Aside from that I am curious as to how to join an offroading club, what it will cost, and how to know which one is right for me. I have a 1980 toyota that is near stock so I won't be doing anything too serious but I would like to be able to tag along for a trail run or two this year. Just trying to find out what my options are.

Thanks,

Bryce

The best advice I can say is go to some events and get to know everyone.
Ask if you can tag along for a trail ride or wrench fest. Find out if the clubs priorities match yours. IF anything, you'll meet some new friends and get educated on do's and don'ts.

x2

There are a lot of different clubs out there. Some are into trail rides, some into mud bogging, some into the mounds, obstacle courses, and mall parking lots. Then there are a few for pussies who spend 2 years to build a jeep, then pay someone to finish their mess, and break the inferior parts on the first run.

I'd try to avoid that last one if I was you...

We are Members of two clubs...I would say if you get involved with any club just keep in mind that you are a part of that club and what ever image that they wish to protray. We are proud to be part of both of the Clubs we are with and what they do to support 4x4ing.

You can look at it a couple of different ways. I am divided on my opinion. Clubs are good to meet new people and to make some good friends. Now for wheeling I am sure some clubs are great, but in my experience, too many people can make for not much wheeling on the trail. I am sure some clubs are better than others for that, but if you end up with the wrong paring on the trail, you can have a day with a whole lot of extraction/fixing and not much wheeling.

The other thing, is with clubs, obviously everyone is looking to get something different out of it. I am into the club thing for the social aspect, if I get lucky and get some good wheeling out of it, that is a bonus. But I wheel on my own (small groups) much more often than clubs get together, so when I get together with a club, I am fine with whatever I get to do.

Find some clubs. Ask when their next meeting and/or run is scheduled. Attend. If you like the folks, join the club, if not find another one.

It's about that simple. Some clubs have a limited number of membership slots. In my opinion if you find one like that it is not worth the effort to try and get in.

Cost, well you usually have membership dues that include club dues to UFWDA and a branch such as GLFWDA or Rustbelt. Usually annual dues might run you $50-$100.

All and all it is a good experience to belong to a club as you meet people, make friends, get involved in saving our sport and know about runs. If you are in the Brighton area (not sure where Chesterfield is) there is a good toyota club there I believe.

If you want to join a club spend some time with them out wheeling . That is where you learn about people and the club its self . That is the only way you will find a club you fit into .

So I think I'll be joining ScOoTeR's "social" club. Just kidding, anywho I bought my ticket to pig gig, I will be fartin around with the yota until then getting it running and fixing the floorboards and other whatnot. Hopefully I can make some connections there and get to know some people a little better.
