Trailer Question

I found a home made car hauler trailer for sale but the only problem is that it has no suspension.
What would the problems be with a hauler with no suspension?
The guy said he used to pull a race car with it and pulled good.
I'm just not sure if it's a good idea or not.
Any input???

seems like it wouldn't hurt whatever you were hauling (it has it's own suspension), but rough as hell on the trailer.. I don't know.

Iv seen a lot of guys do that with race cars , i can think of no advantage . The main down side is no travel on the axels . If you were to run over a curb or something you will load the shit out of one tire .

Frankly the newer torsion bar axel set ups are not much better then no suspension .

leaf spring with a center rocker was a far better set up .

It just seems like it might handle rough with no suspension. Don't wanna waste my time/money if it's gonna be a piece of junk.

Iv seen them towed that way and it didnt seem to have any harsh effects .

So in your opinion how would it be hauling my CJ on it? Or quads for that matter.

If the price is right adding trailer leaf springs is no biggie if you own a welder,

same with the brakes, you really only need to have one axle with brakes...

depends if you plan on taking that trailer out of state, many states require brakes on all axles, over 1500 lbs

we have a small trailer at work with no suspension on it it. it hauls a skidsteer or our small mill machine and it tows/rides like shit. very harsh over even the smallest bumps. but we've had it for 10 years and tow it almost everday....hasn't hurt the skidsteer or mill.

Michigan requires brakes on all wheels if over 3500 pounds. And....... with a jeep on a trailer you are.

Michigan requires them on both axles. It you can sell trailers with only one axle brakes in MI...but they aren't MDOT approved.

if your intrested i can give you the number or email or a guy down river who sells cars trailers with 1 braked axle with brakes for 1200 bucks a pop. he makes 20 a year or so I guess and sells them on the side. I bought one from him but I do not think he usually sells them like this. i paid 1500. down side is mine is narrow since it was designed to haul a race car. fits my jeep on 37"s and stock width axles perfectly with 1" of play on each side.
