Default HP Dana 30 strength

How much weaker/stronger is a HP Dana 30's 4.88 R&P compared to a 4.56 R&P? 98 XJ not that it matters what it's in.

Well...the HP is stronger...how much stronger?

The easy answer is "a factor of 1.874".

I basically see 35s as the limit for any Dana 30, and thats still going to see breakage. Even if the ring and pinion were bulletproof, its gonna break everything else.

I dissagree , i found any thing over 33 " was breaking stock shafts right and left .

Ring and pinion may hold 35" if you run molly shafts .

put it this way, the pinion for a d30 4.88 is almost the size of half dollar ... if that. Probably closer to a quarter.

Do you want your r&p as a weak link or a u-joint? D30 shafts are pretty easy to come by- unless you go cromolly.

That is the answer I was looking to find. 4.56's it is for now.
