not to hijack or steal Jeff's thunder but i've got plans to take over what's left of his XJ (just a shell right now) and start a project that will take it to something like this. only smaller tires and a much better exo

I picked up this for the next "upgrade"

I used 99% of the parts from the XJ to build it. I had to get a gas tank, rear leafs, and a few odds and ends, but everything else is from the XJ.

I'm selling the 32's because I picked up some 35's to put on it.

I started the build with this..... most parts swapped over just fine.

I tore the interior out of the XJ...

And installed it into the MJ. The seats do not swap, so I had to make adapters to get them to bolt in. I also raised them up a little to help with visibility....

Took the front end of the XJ off to make it easier to get the motor out, and to swap everything to the MJ...

The MJ....

The leaky stroker on the way out of the XJ...

And installed in its new home..

Made new control arm mounts to push the axle forward from where it used to be by about 2". Looks pretty good to me.

Didn'e have the steering hooked up and couldn't find anyone to help me line up the body to get the track bar in, so I came up with my own helper...

just a couple more pics

and even picked up a tail gate in good shape.

I got the gas tank mounted, all new fuel lines ran, all new brake lines bent up, new flex lines installed and the brakes bled. The pedal feels a lot firmer than it did in the XJ. I have driven it around the backyard a bit, everything feels good so far.

I picked up a set of 35" bfg's from Craigslist, got them mounted to see how they will fit...

Tire coverage looks to be about perfect with the 35's too. You can even see the poor old XJ in the garage in this one.

I noticed some cracking in between the lugs on the tires, so I decided to get some different ones. I picked up some 35" trxus mud terrains and got those mounted up. Turns out they were once owned by Killer B

Here's how it sits as of last night. Still need to weld the rear axle perches on and finish welded my frame stiffeners on and it will be more or less done.

Nice job.

For all that trouble, I hope you don't bash that longbox on trees and take it off and tube it out, you could have just kept the XJ.

Nice job though, I'm impressed.

Nice MJ. Are you going bob the bed, make a tube bed, or just leave it the way it is.

the plan is to bob and dovetail the bed, but not for a while. I'm gonna wheel it how it is, but I'll add some bed rail sliders to it when I weld the cage in.

It runs and drives under its own power. The only thing from keeping me off the street is the rear spring perches aren't welded on yet. I just have them resting there with the ubolts loosely holding it all in place.

I'll bob it eventually. The rear quarters on my XJ were all smashed up, and they were like 2 feet shorter than these. The plan is to make a custom rear bumper/crossmember and the spring shackle will be mounted to the rear face of it. Then trim the bed so its all flush is the rear.

I have had the XJ for 9 years, time for something new, and it was getting prety rusty in some key areas. Like the front leaf mounts were pretty weak, the frame where my 3 link attaches was getting tweaked after every trip out.....

And I've always liked MJ's
