Hi guys I moved this to its own thread so we can continue on. Yetti

I thought that MATVA's mapbook was presently "best in the state" as it now shows the Tomahawk trail as "motorcycle only" rather than the old map showing both an atv and motorcycle in the legend and the remark:
"maintained as a motorcycle trail"....

This massive trail is another subject that is definitely 'taboo' in this community because of our (quote/unquote) "leader's" refusal to buck up against these guys and simply maintain this HUGE 100 mile trail as it truly NEEDS to be.

Please give 'ol Richard some credit for gosh sakes....hmmm?

I believe he was stating his opinion.

Can I ask what is wrong with Michigan having three "motorcycle only trails"?
(I am thinking of Tomahawk, Evart and the MCCCT)

I can understand heartburn if Tomahawk used to be ATV/MC (I was unaware of that), but from a few of your posts that I have read, you present the motorcycle community in a bad light.

I guess I will beat this dead horse somemore...

The fact about what is Motorcycle only trail seems to be lost on the fact the laws describes "ORV trail" as 50" wide. there is no subsection that states there is anything is narrower. so with this its not in the frames of the law to be continuing maintence on narrower trails set at 24" at the ground and 40" at the handle bars... so why is the state still paying to have them groomed this way? the only parts of the MCCCT trails a 50" machine can't travel is where it goes down a road that requires a S.O.S. issued licence plate. I can see why OMB is mad the law is allowing for bending of the rules and they are putting it in print different then the real law states.

So, what is the best map to own for ORV ROUTES, (I don't need trails)?

What is the C.C.C. and what is the MATVA?

Thanks for your help!

the Matva bokk is produced by Richard Rondue. he has two different ones L.P & U.P. they are avalable through Amazon & Borders. I don't know the cost.
The CCC produce a trail/route guide. its GPS'd and has good info on all the trails. the Trail guide by Matva has all the open county roads highlighted.

ORV ROUTES are 50' wide
ORV TRAILS are 24' wide

CCC map book is the best one to describe all this that I have found.

I don't know where you get that from, Routes are 72" wide and trail is 50" wide by law. theres no such thing as 24" trail in any of the ORV law books. the orv trail guide discribes 24" trail but its all open to 50" travel. the problem is that the state refuses to inforce its own rules, the trail maintenence fund pays to maintain trails to the spec of the law. the fund is being bent to maintain 24" trail which was out moded and by law shouldn't exist.

and to Romey... your welcome.

Since I like to be accurate as much as possible I have to say I talked out my ass. Yetti of course is correct. No big surprise there as he's studied the laws :D. By looking in my CCC map book and knowing the confidence markers that we put up on the trails.......in the book it shows markers (orange triangles) with quads on it for the 50" trails....and markers with motorcycles on it for the "may be maintained at 24" trails.....both are considered trail by the CCC.

Is there anywhere I can see a page or two of this CCC map to compare to the other, and more importantly does it show ORV ROUTES also (I am of course only interested in places my jeep can go legally, not motorcycles)

Thanks for your help!
