Default Motorcycle gurus...

Whats good whats bad, and don't mention a Harley, this bike is more then I want to spend as it is.... I would get a rocket, but I used to get into too much trouble on them.

I stopped and looked at a Honda Shadow last night, 40mpg romping on it 50+ babying it...

I think I may be telling work to park their truck, I'm might buy a bike for DD... I checked payments last night, I can pay the payment, buy gas, and insurance and still come out ahead each month

I haven't looked at one in person yet, but I like the V-Star Custom too... Espec this 2006 model

The shadows are down on power compared to the competion.

Here is a cool site you might want to look at.

http://www.umgweb.com/usedbikeguide.html

It will give you an idea on what to expect long term.

the 1100 class is a good all around class. the bigger bikes get better mileage then the smaller ones. if your dealing with the new honda shop in owosso check around you can get it for cheaper. most all brands have the 0 down 69 a month deals.give or take some. the bad deal is if you only pay that you will still owe the same as you did when you bought it.750 class is real popular too. i like the kawasaki vulcans for cruisers because all there models are water cooled. i prefer that over air, seems alot smoother bike with better reliability.and if you are dealing with ron in owosso watch your paperwork closely..best shops for deals close to you are birch run. or the new full throttle in lansing. if you dont mind going for a drive call nelsons in greenville. i think he has yamaha bikes now. or the dealer in toledo oh. cant remember there name now but they are cheap.look in the auto trader. stay away from the detroit dealers. you will get scammed....

With the price you are looking to spend, RUN far and fast away from the Yamaha. Its said that the 650 engine is like the power of a 250 from any other brand, I have also heard some not so nice reviews of other v-stars from friends who have been on them.

The shadow is a nice bike, plus its a Honda, so you will have no problems there.

Suzuki is known to have the best bang for your buck with their cruisers, but you sacrafice things like quality and customer service with a Suzuki most of the time. I would recommend an SV650 or V-strom bike though, they are pretty much a standard riding position and I am actually thinking of an SV myself after riding one.

I just stopped there because it was on my way home, I was pissed off paying $15 and not even getting 3/8 tank that I needed to get tot work and back. I am not planning on buying new realistically, I figure anything newer then 2000 should get decent mileage. I plan on staying well under 1000 CC's as well, It will only be my scrawny ass on it and I remember playing hard in thr throttle on all the other bikes I rode... trying to get something that won't tempt me.

How far is your commute how fast do you go? I am not a road bike expert by any means. I can see some of the smaller bikes getting worse mileage when doing 80 for an extended period but a single 600 has to get better mileage then a twin 1000cc+ if you weren't highway cruising.

I've had nothing but good luck with Kawasaki's, check out the Mean Streak. It is a cool looking bike.

31 miles one way with the option of 15 of them being hwy (the way I go when there is no construction on I69)

I honestly was looking at one of the air cooled 250's but I know I would get called a girly-man, it was a little small even for me

kawasaki has a new 900 that is a sweet bike... yea the 650 v star is a terd!! the 1100 vstar is a nice bike. suzuki has nice bikes too. i would recommend if your looking for used, look for a kawasaki , or if you can find a good deal on a older honda v45 or v65. they were great bikes. i have ran dealerships for 10 years. rode most all brands..

Yeah with that much time on highway I have heard that you can work over a small single cylinder pretty good.

I have always wanted an air cooled Yamaha TT600 so that I can ride out of Auburn Hills straight to my property up north and cruise trails.. But that wouldn't be DD so I wouldn't be worried as much about comfort and daily wear and tear spinning the high r's.

everyone makes a copy of some type in a Harley model, at half the price. the only thing they can't copy is the sound. I have road many styles of bikes including a Harley that I had an accident with. not for or against any product, just make sure the product is safe and you ride safe.

Honestly I think Harleys are too F'in loud, and over rated, Never a fan of the 'sound.' I don't really want a cruiser, but know I would get in trouble on a rocket, every time I am on one I speed and don't even realize it. I want a Buell (yeah Harley motor, oh well) but goes back to the get in trouble issue.

Harleys are only loud if you choose for them to be.

Same for me. When I called all the dealers around detroit to see if they could come close to the price they all said "there is no way they can sell it to you for that" but I went there and had no problems, nothing added on or anything.

my cousin had one of those new 250 Ninjas, and he weighs less then me at around 120-30, and he said it didnt want to do anything on the freeway. Acceleration at 70 to get away from things(cars, big rigs) was just about nothing
