Glad the local paper doesn't have an opinion. . .

These were the two front page stories today.

i dont see why its such a big deal to let riders along the shoulder of the road. snowmobiles can, so why not dirt bikes and atvs.

sleds dont throw rocks and sticks up.... i think they should be allow to ride there to be think about it... when ever a dirt bike is on the gas theres shit flying up behind it.. and sleds can ride in the ditchs... no ton the side of the road... some county's allow it but not all... in gaylord and mackinaw you can ride on the sidewalks

That is a scary way of thinking that the government has to protect people from their own personal choice to buy and ride a quad.

car crashes certenly kill more than atv's. people are stupid if they want to ban atv's.

i think atvs are a good way for people to learn how to drive.
i learned how to drive on an atv. it helps young people understand the physics involved in a moving vehicle stoping turning ect. of course i hurt myself on it though i was like 15 or something. i actualy rolled the thing about four times total. only two serious ones but only one caused an injury.
but i dont think kids under about 16 should be on a full size atv. 250 or less cc four stroke is way more than enough for a 16yo.
i do strongly believe a helmet and proper gear is a MUST!!!

maybe a speed govener on the atv would be a idea for atvs for kids.

i had a 250 when i was 8... no way in hell that little thing will carry a 16yo around fast enough.

i got a 400ex when i was 14. I felt it was fast, but not fast enough. I had been riding since i was 7 so my parents felt i was mature enough to move from a breeze (125), to a sportsman (335 too heavy for me at 10 i admit), a blaster at 12, then my 400. I dont think you can set the standard with an age. I was about 5'9" and 160 pounds when i was 14. I see some 7th graders who are 6 feet tall. I could keep up with my older cousins easily and safely on the trails. I think it should be up to educated parents. I wish more people would encourage new riders to take orv classes. I would feel much safer on those narrow trails knowing the guy flying around the corner knows what he's doing. The main problem with atv's is it's mostly rednecks who hop on their quads with no helmet or gear thinking they are invincible, not considering those around them. Then their kids see them doing this and think its ok.

As far as riding on the side of the road, im sort of iffy about it. So many people have no respect for the privelages our state provides us with. I see people jumping drive ways, screaming down the road with their baffles cut out, and just tearing road sides up. I think it just may provide more statistics and bad rap against orv's. On the other hand it could benefit by getting more dealers and people involved in the sport. It a pretty tough subject for me to take a side on

I thought he lost 7 fingers, an elbow, two sisters, an eye, an ear, and 1/2 of one buttcheek in a combine accident, and thus the problems with his typing.
