roll the strap and use a cable clamp... go through the middle of the roll and clamp it down to the rest of the strap.... that way if you ever need the rest of the strap someday it will be there

I fold up the excess so its near the ratchet, and then wrap some duct ape around it. securing the folded part to the strap. Some I've had strapped for many years.

The straps that we use are shorter than most, they are for car haulers and such with axle straps and clip ends. I still have to tie off about 3 feet on the back, but for the front I put them in the strap box that is on the tongue and close the lid. I just got a new trailer and am going to do the same setup. I do have a strap that I use for the ramps that I got from someone else that was cut and it is nice to tighten it up and be done with it. That all being said though, I would not cut them.

Some of the newer straps have keepers for the excess, I've only seen it once in 1 1/4 inch though...

Wont cutting your strap also weaken the mesh? especially if it starts to fray?

ive cut one that we use for something else.. to keep em from fraying just use a lighter and run along the edge to melt the nylon. works good.

One of my buddies uses spring clamps. He folds them and spring clamps them up by the ratchet handle.

i always take the tail end, and stick it back into the roll just before its tight, then fold the double remainder in 12-18" folds, and put it through the handle, and clamp it down.

hmm that seems kinda hard to follow, i dunno how else to describe it though. maybe ill get some pics. thats how we always did cherry tanks, and i do the same with everything else now.

I tried duct tape, but it doesn't stick real well when you drive 8+ hours in the rain, had one come loose first time I used it. I use elastic banded ball dohickeys. I think they are tarp tie downs or something. Wrap it around the strap and excess, then insert ball and its tied together.
