Default XJ engine and tranny swap

Alright, I've got an 88 XJ with the 4.0 and the peugot 5 speed in it. It's 4wd as well. The engines got quite the lifter tick, and my guess is it's going to need a cam/lifters in another 5k - but the whole drive train has 235k on it. The body and interior really isn't super bad, so I was thinking about swaping a later 4.0 and AX15 into it.....

The problem is I'm not much of an xj guy, so I was wondering about the little stuff like: will I need new drive shafts, will the T case from the 88 bolt up to what ever trans/engine I get, will the shift linkage be fine, etc. Has anyone done a swap like this (I'm sure people have) and if so is it fairly straight forward? I dont want to run into any kinks like not having the right crossmember for the trans, etc....

Alright, since no one seems to know, I'll rephrase my initial question: With an 89xj, what year 4.0's (and out of what - I realize with a newer XJ it'll need an upgraded fuel system) and what different trannies besides the peugot tranny will be a basic bolt in swap?
