Default gas mileage?

Any one have an idea why my 89 p/up with 22re & 5spd running 30" a/t's can get 5 mpg less than my 85 4runner w 235's. 85 got 22mpg with 31's about 60k ago now gets about 20. P'up gets 15/16 it seems to run great. Has more power w 30's or 31's than 4rnnr does w 235's. I would think dlx p'up has to way a few hundred lbs less than loaded 4rnnr. Recently tuned p'up plugs/wires/cap & rotor no change.

My '89 XtraCab with a 22RE/5 spd combo on 31x11.50 Yokohama Muddiggers in got around 24 mpg driving back and forth from Bay City to Holland. It had around 145k on it when I bought it ad 163k and a wrist pin rattle when I sold it. Wish I never got rid of it.

My '91 4Runner with a 22RE/5 spd. combo on BFG 31x10.50 ATs got @ 17-19 mpg around town. 21 on the highway IIRC. That thing had 207k when I bought it and @ 246k when I sold it. Thing purred llike a kitten still.

My '04 DoubleCab Taco 3.4/auto gets @ 20 highway and @ 17 city.

88 yota p/u...with 35's...all stock 3.0 5 spd....4.10 gears....with the doors on.....I would guess 19 to tank takes me to work and back plus around town for two weeks....3 mile trips....but the close ones are the costly ones....doors off....not too bad.....from Vassar to Grandmans in west branch took 1/4 tank......
