Default '68 440 Mopar

I know absolutely nothing about the old motors floating out there cept that I want one

so what is the easiest way to tell a hemi apart from the others? I know where there is going to be a 1968 440 Mopar coming up for sale. no other info than that, it is at an auction so I am just curious what is the easiest way to tell?

hemi has plugs going through the valve covers...

Google casting numbers. If you can get that close to the block it is the most definite way to tell. The bare blocks themselves can be similar.

I have a '77 440 myself.

If its a 440, its not a Hemi, 68 vintage Hemis would be 426 C.I. The 68 440 is still a good find, its got the forged crank and good flowing heads. Id say if it turns over easily anything under $600 would be an Excellent deal. Its doubtful you can find a Hemi at any bargain anymore, everybody and their Grandma knows what a Hemi is now, Thanks to Dumbler Chrysler and their 4 Door Charger!
