Default Anti access petitions put forward by gas stations?

Anti Access Businesses in Moab!!
Everybody needs to stop doing business with these companies. These companies have all signed a letter to Utah's Governer urging him to limit or eliminate access to Utah's back country to off-highway vehicles. These are only the tourism-related companies in Moab that signed the letter. There are more, but these are the ones that you may have given money to in the past, or may in the future. PLEASE DO NOT GIVE ANY MONEY TO ANY OF THESE BUSINESSES. THEY DO NOT WANT YOU IN MOAB.

THE FOLLOWING MOAB COMPANIES SIGNED THE ANTI-ACCESS LETTER TO GOVERNOR HUNTSMAN. PLEASE WRITE TO INFORM THEM OF YOUR DISCONTENT AND STOP USING THEIR SERVICES.

I was just over to pirate following up on this and the scum bags who wrote the list have been hood winking folks with false statments and petitions. the above list has been posted to to show support for a cause that apparently never needed it since most folks didn't know they were on alist. the guy from Mobilia is bent about the fact his business wound up on the list.

Quote:
As seen througout the thread, several (if not more) of the businesses on the list had no clue they were on the list, or had little understanding what it meant. We (the U4WDA) would love to put together a "list" of companies that are 4WD "Freindly" in the Moab (and Utah) area, give those that support some props! However due to other large land-use projects we are currently working on... there are very little resources (time) to get it done anytime soon...

I just did some searching and found a list of supporting businesses:

Quote:
Just for the record this is a list of companies that took the time to send in letters to the BLM giving their SUPPORT to RR4W getting their 5 year permit renewed. Seems like a good place to drop some coin if you ask me!

Angel Rock Real Estate
Grand County Travel Council
Green River Chamber of Commerce
Moab Tour Company
Sorrel River Ranch
Red Cliffs Lodge
The Money Company
Moab Lodging Association
Big Horn Lodge
Ellis Auto Fab
Zions Bank
Got Rocks 4x4 (Lehi, UT)
Redstone Inn
Moab KOA
Sleep Inn
Bill Burke's 4-Wheel America (Fruita, CO)
Bookcliff Lodge (Green River, UT)
Bowen Motel
International Adventure Tours
Moab Unlimited
Canyonlands By Night

I got this from the BLM.
We're heading out to bicycle and dirtbike in April. I know who to support (staying at the KOA also) :)

Read up on this link:

SUWA\\\\\\\\\\'s ORV page

IMHO, it sounds like they are pushing the BLM to designate official ORV routes to protect land from trail poaching or just plain driving wherever you want out there, i.e. it sounds like they DO NOT WANT TO STOP ORV USE, they want the BLM to enforce responsible ORV use.
Many of us are the same way - we want to do the right thing and promote responsible wheeling so we continue to have someplace to go do it. I think the SUWA realizes the huge amount of income generated by ORV users is an important resource to Utah and just want to protect the land we shouldn't be wheeling on.
Here is a photo from their site:

It shows exactly what most responsible wheelers hate to see as well. And it's just not in that spot. I've been to Moab 4 times and I see similar damage on other trails.

Long story short - I don't think the SUWA and their petition is aimed at driving ORV users away, just making us responsible for our actions, which I beleive is a good thing.
