Default dumb jeep ???????????

ok i am new to the jeep thing. i have a 87 yj with a 305 v8 in it. when i jump on it it spins front and rear tires in 2 high. now it has dyna 35 with 410 gears. are the 87 yj all wheel drive? if so can i buy lockouts for a dyna 35?

First off, wow.

Now, lets start to understand what you are asking. If it has a V8, then somebody swapped that in. So, what t/case is in there? I can't image you will spin all 4 tires in 2wd. So iether it isn't in 2wd, or you have an odd t/c in there. And the front axle is a Dana 30, not a dyna 35. There are hub kits for it (made by Warn) but it is much $$$.

What does the tag on the back of the t/c say, that should tell you what t/c is in it.

That's a 231.

Put the Jeep in 2wd. Try and spin the front drive shaft by hand.

Looks like a 231 w/a SYE to me, as well.

The shift linkage is out of adjustment.

If one tire up front and one in the rear are spinning when you step on the gas, that means the front and rear are locked... as in it's in 4WD, most likely 4Hi. Just because the little shifter says it's shifted into "2WD", doesn't mean it is IN 2wd.

Get that shit looked at by a competent mechanic.

in the t/c all the way up is in 2 high one click down is 4 high and the next is N. tryed them all. 4 low is hard to get into so the linkage is off but the t/c is going in 2 high. i just need to take it to DTS tomarrow and have them tell me what i have.

You don't seem to be understanding what people are trying to tell you. If there is power going to the front wheels IT IS NOT IN 2 HI The shifter may be in the 2 hi position, but it theres power going to the front wheels it has to be in 4-something.
