i built a badass rear bumper for my 88 f150 last year in my shop class. i just got my hands on some 6 inch inside diameter pipe. that shit is 1/4'' thick. i sealed the ends with 1/4" plates i cut out with a plasma cutter.it took forever to seal the end welds because i was just learning to weld and kinda sucked. then i just drilled and tapped out a hole. when i screwed in the pipe fitting i just tephlon taped the piss outta it and then smeared jb weld around it for good measure. that thing rocks but it is VERY VERY heavy. i think the 1/4" mighta been overkill but it was free and im sure its just about indestructable. ive been too lazy to mount the beast on the truck tho.

I turned my bumpers into airtanks. No leaks on the front and a slight leak on the rear one. Drilled and tapped, thats not where the problem is. I'm not going to bother sealing up the rear though, they just don't hold enough air to make it worth it. You might be able to get one tire up to 20psi from 10psi, thats it.

Honestly, i dont really see a need to worry about making bumpers into airtanks, if they are going to hold around 100PSI and your going rock crawling, personally i wouldnt do it.. but thats just me.

i'd just run an on board air compressor, and a small tank in my bed (protected of course)

As onea the idiots mentiond on pirate4x4, something about blowing a tire? I'd rather drive home on a rim than worry about getting hurt, or hurting someone else due to a flaw in the fabrication.

Some peoples stupidity ruins it for the rest of us...

not really worth it IMHO.
Actualy 337CI is account for wall thickness consuming space and it becoming not a true 2x5x50 So it's not worth the hassle.

I did that to my rear bumper when I built it. But when I put air in it, it leaked out of a lot of tiny pinholes in the welds. I tried welding them up and sanding them down but new one were created. Finaly after doing the math on the bumper capacity i realzied it's wasn't going to be much at all and this wasn't worth my time :miff:
