Default Max Size Tire on a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

Got a buddy with a Ram (all stock) and wants to go to a larger tire size. he currently has 20" rims and finding an agressive tire for this size is impossible. If he went to 17" (smallest allowable size) black steelies, how big could he go? He wants a 33" tall tire, but not sure about rubbing.

33's should not be a problem on a DR unless he starts screwing with the backspacing. I believe someone posted pictures some time ago of 35's on stock rims, similar to what Motorcitydak posted.
