Default Tech question regarding IP address

Ok , tell me how this works . If im banned from this new site they would ban my IP correct ?

Now im on a DSL line with a rolling IP . If i turn off my DSL and turn it back on i have a new IP address at the router , the router assigns my PC an address . SO how then do you ban an IP ?

Im learning just in case they give me trouble around here . PC guru in the making

Its still Static, which means it doesn't change..

Proxy servers are your friend G-man... Proxy's will get you through any IP ban..

It may be static line side, and dynamic load side.

Home DSL is not static IP unless you pay extra for a static IP. A rolling IP usually only changes the last set of numbers in the IP. So you have 111.222.333.44 as you IP now....reboot the DSL or Cable and you now have 111.222.333.77. In order to properly ban someone on a dynamic IP, one would have to ban a range of IP's, or a block of IP's....let's say 111.222.333.***

Doing this can cause problems somtimes because IP blocks are assigned to sections of the network. Like if my IP was blocked properly, then no one in my area...like next door and such...that have the same ISP as me could get on.

You could even go further and block an entire IP set, basicly blocking anyone from that ISP....say Charter Cable.

Using a proxy is only a temp way around a ban as the proxy IP will soon be banned if they want you banned bad enough. You can nab a different proxy, but then it'll get banned....you get the picture. Moving target. Drives the mods crazy.

On the subject of Proxies..... anyone find any that they like ? I've got a couple, but most of them lately seem to be slow.

Muddy paws hit on my point . you would block an unknow number of users .

SBC has certain number of IP numbers in this area . When there rolling as these are you would be blocking the next person who ended up with that IP number . He sees my point , or were both missing somthing here .
