Default locations in wanted ads

im not trying to pick on mark here but this is more of a general question

why do you need a location its not like you are selling something and need to let buyers know where its is. if you want something generally you need it and will either pay the shipping or go get it.

I frequently have things that people are looking for and don't post up because its not a good deal for me as a seller based on the buyers location.

The seller has a right to choose whether he wants to bother doing business with you. Posting up that you have exactly what the person needs, only to find out that they require it to be shipped (big shit) or are perhaps out of the country (many don't want to deal with customs) results in an added shipping burden for some people (regardless of whether the buyer pays) or then makes the seller look like an a-hole for backing out of the deal because they don't have the time/money/resources to support it. Example: Crating or palletizing axles, taking them to the shipping dock, etc can be a much bigger PITA (and possibly more expensive) than just throwing them in the truck and meeting the buyer or charging some gas money for delivery.

If you want to do business on the internet, accept the fact that people will want to know where you are for various reasons. If locations were a User Profile requirement upon registration, this would never have become an issue.

Edit: Please put this in Comments/Suggestions. Its a valid topic that can be discussed without becoming retarded and it would be good for people to give input on. It doesn't need to be in the Bin.

I think wanted ads should say "Will pickup within an hours drive of X" or "will pay to ship"

I've had two people post up they wanted leaf springs, and both times I had to reply that I have them, but then they say they won't drive to get them, and they won't pay to ship.

It wasted my time and theirs.

ok this makes more sense that just saying location

if people post if they are willing to pay shipping or travel so far to get them.

If they are going to post that they are willing to travel "x" number of miles, they will still have to indicate the start point (their location). Otherwise, giving an acceptable distance is meaningless.

Indicating that they will pay for shipping still does not address the issue of sellers not wanting to deal with anyone out of the country. Doing business and trying to keep your location from being known, whether commercial or private, is just plain shady. I won't buy or sell from anyone 9businesses included) that doesn't want to tell me where they are.

I'm also confused as to why this is even an issue. Are you the "Al Sharpton" representing these mystery sellers that want to do business on the internet, but are paranoid about people finding out where Cobra Command Headquarters is located? Everyone in this thread (except the guy that actually dictates the rules) has their location in their profile.

I have stuff for probably over 30% of the wanted adds, but I won't reply unless I know the buyer is somewhere I can get the parts to.
