My rear tire carrier/bumper

The bolts sticking out are for the highlift. I should have it on there tommorow. I need to move the CB antenna mount. I put it right under the friggin taillight. Either that or Ill just get flushmount taillights. Wanted to do that anyways.

So far it seems plenty sturdy. It is really quiet.

What are you using to hold it in the upright position?

Nate, the only thing I will tow with it is a small trailer to carry my camping gear and tools and crap so I would have no need to get in the back. The carrier would however allow to be opened a bit where you could get into the back.

It is heavy, but no heavier than a swing out. It is actually surprisingly lighter than I had expected.

Here is a pic of the latch system. It isn't the best pic but you can kida see how it works. Eventually I want a spring loaded latch vs. the cotter pic. It is mounted on the top of the bumper. The tab on the rack slides between the two on the bumper and they pic together. Nothing attaches to the cab, although I am working on a possible one just to help support it. After a little driving and a bunch of pulling, pushing and wiggling, the weakest spots are the mounting point to the factory rear of the frame, which I expected, I just haven't had time to make the mounting brackets yet, which should take care of almost any movement. The paint job sucks cause I painted it just before dark.

You're going to have to be very careful not to hit your spare... and sent the carrier into the tailgate/ rear window, or fold the mounting tabs horizontally...

I doubt the upper mounting point will hold up to the leverage/ weight of the jeep on the spare.
