I appreciate what all of our soldiers have done and are doing, but I made the choice to stay here and be a Firefighter and a First Responder. Isn't this another way of displaying Honor, Courage, and Commitment? I respect that you chose to fight wars over seas, but my decision to stay stateside and fight the wars here are important as well. I enjoy the freedom and the rights the same as sova, but do I not deserve them becasue I was not in the Miliary? I just think that the way that you stated things, it does sound as if we are not as important as you. I KNOW that you don't think that way, because we have had some good debates, but it could be misconstrued as such.

No, he's right. we should ALL be in the military. then we would have a badass military...with nothing to protect.

not very full of yourself are you?

it sounds good when somebody says that about you, not when you say it about yourself, it just make you look like a pompous ass who thinks he/she is better than anyone else who hasn't served in the military who chooses to serve the country in other ways.

So because he's a teacher he can't speak his opinion outside of the classroom?

being in the military had nothing to do with what we were talking about. He claimed only one "unfit to serve" person was going to have to go back to Iraq, which, if you read the article, is wrong. I said that, and he then asked me if I had served in the military, which doesn't have anything to do with him being wrong.

I said that only one person was speaking up about being injured and I pointed out the fact that she had psychological issues. I did not say that there was only one person going to back to Iraq..... The article clearly states that there are 75 soldiers out of 3900 that are injured and returning to Iraq.....

See, in the Military, Technically you sign a contract giving up your rights as an individual and you become, in a sense, property of the United States..... Hence, even though it RARELY happens, you can go to Court Martial for recieving a tattoo, under the charges of Defacing US Gov't Property. [(US ARMY Article 670) and punishable under several codes of the UCMJ-934-134, 933-133, 892-92)]

There are jokes in the military portrayed in the Movie 'Full Metal Jacket' saying "You cannot die unless you are ordered to!"

My point is the US Medical officers will tell you if you are fit enough for duty. They agreed to it when they signed the contract!

The fact is that we don't know all of the sides of the story here (The soldiers side, the US Army's side, and the truth).

I'm not saying that this war in Iraq is protecting your rights..... What I am saying is that our soldiers past and present have died for our rights, to me there is no difference in what the soldiers of any past war fought for and what the soldiers are fighting for in today's war..... I don't want to get into a debate about that right now..... Mike Sova does have a right to speak his mind, and I'll defend that right, However I have the right to disagree..... What bothers me most is when people try to speak their mind about what the fully do not understand..... By me asking mike about his time in service in the armed forces was an attempt for me to see if he actually had an understanding to how the militarty actually worked.

If you tell my best friend (that leaves for Iraq for his 3rd year of the sandbox) "thanks for serving" he will tell you "No Problem, You're worth it!" ..... It's something, I guess, that only a veteran can understand.

Yeah LOL, I'll admit I've gotten fat & lazy but that wasn't until after my obligation to my full contract was served.

Okay, yeah, I think every American, when they turn 18/graduate from high school should join the Armed Service for a minimum of two years..... If anything, to teach them respect and discipline, an attribute that many youth of today are seriously lacking.

In the beginning...(like yesterday)

you said something about the article that was wrong...

I said you were wrong...

You asked if I was in the Military...

I said, that has nothing to do with the article...

then you typed a lot of words.

what did that do for us?

I got my point out there and where my beliefs stem from and why...... and besides cutting and pasting an article, we learned that you work at a water treatment facility....... You brought nothing to the table except for starting the thread..... not even a statement regarding the article backing up your beliefs.

You're gonna need a longer handle if your gonna stir the shit!
