I give mostly to my church, who in turn does all kinds of charity with the money.

-they have a charity called "Fruit of the vine" which provides serivices and food to the very poor
-they have a charity that directly provides food and people to talk to for people infected with HIV
-They do free daycare for hundreds of single moms in the surrounding neighborhoods
-they provide free legal and medical help for poor or single moms (through doctors and lawyers that are members of our church that donate time!)

My church has really made me proud of how they spend money that people donate.
Everything I own was given to me by God anyway! So why not give it back to him and to people who need!!

Matthew 25:25,30
"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'
"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

I also donate money to the national welfare society in the form of taxes..

Hmm, I wonder if I can claim my taxes, on my taxes becuase it's a donation.

Does any one know of any trustworthy child sponsorship charities? My girlfriend and I were looking at sponsoring a child together. I don't know which programs to trust and which not to trust.

Not yet, but I want to eventually. I kinda left that school in disgust to the way administration was handling things. But they did a great job with initiating the enginnering cirriculum.

I work several benefit auctions. The last 2 were for Habitat and the Make a Wish Foundation.

We donate extra stuff to Goodwill usually as well. We are currently fostering a rescue Pitbull too.

If you donate items to Goodwill, VOA, etc... Get a copy of the TurboTax It'sDeductible! program. The values that your stuff is worth on your taxes is incredible. That pile of stuff I thought was worth maybe $50 was worth HUNDREDS of dollars literally. Spend the $20 or so. It will pay for itself over and over.

Much like hacksaw said, I give most of my paycheck in the form of taxes to people who are to lazy to work.

I pay a higher price for my natural gas because people don't work and can't afford it, so I have to pay a % of theirs.

I pay a higher water bill because people are to lazy to work, so I have to pay a % of that.

I pay higher medicare bills for our employees because there are people who are to lazy to work, and have no healthcare.

If anyone is heavily involved in a charity and is interested in the possibility of conducting charity auctions, please contact me. I can assist with everything from the planning stage to the actual auction. /shameless plug

I donate money to Navy Relief, the USO, and to Rails to Trails and during the holidays, I donate my time to Toys for Tots.

I also have a full-time job with The Skillman Foundation. Fortunately, we do not accept donations.... I don't think I would ever want to work at an organization that has to do fund-raising. Way too much stress involved.
