Default Do you give to a charity?

If so which one(s)? Why? Do you give every year?

some of those "gifts" are time, some are blood (obviously) and some are monetary. regularity varies.

NAACP. Because African Americans have been discriminated against too long, and someone needs to help them.

If you aren't donating, you are killing yourself at tax time :)

We donate some cash each each. Red Cross & Salvation army.

We donate to our old schools scholarship funds.

We donate to Silver Lake Animal Rescue, where I got my Pooches from.

Then we donate lots of old clothes and housewares to Purple Heart a couple times a year. Get HUNDREDS in tax savings from that. (you'd be amazed what government fair market value is on stuff...)

Special Olimpics, American Canser, and the Girl Scouts (troops only not the Desk people that get the biggest cut of the cookie sales) Local Fire Dept.,

Because it only right to!

I no longer give to the american red cross because I feel they do more out of country then in country with the money. After 911 and they had to fight to give the money to the families in New York I don't forgive or forget these types of things.

I support my local Humane Society, Disabled American Veterans and the Salvation Army. And I wish I could do more for underprivileged kids (Big Brothers And Sisters) especially inner city youth who may never get a chance to enjoy the great outdoors like we do.

Salvation army-clothes and stuff we no longer want/need
Worldcomm-for famine relief in Africa
St. Vincent Sarah center for abused/abandonded/neglected children
Haven center in Pontiac for batter wives and children
Township library

For strictly tax purposes, giving used books to the township library is the biggest tax advantage... at least it was in 2004. 80-90% of what you give comes right off your taxes. I forgot the percentage, but it was really high. You get a lot more back on your taxes then you would if you donated them to the salvation army.

I make a couple of runs to faith in action every year. plus all the hand outs put in for at work. theres always someone out side the gates with a sign and a can to toss money in. the best one I donat to is the American Legion hall by my house, they built a new boat launch with the funds they got the last two years and were able to put on a new roof. so when you come out for winter carnival you won't have rain & shit on your head.

As for why. To help the kids. No kid should have to deal with what these kids do at that age.
