Default Who here actually knows anything about the Manufacturing environment?

Who among us have actually worked in a UAW manufacturing facility?
Who among us have actually worked in a NON-Unionized Manufacturing facility?
Who among us is just talking out of their arse, about these topics today, and have no experience in the environment?

As suprising as it is and ass skewed as some of MY post/thoughts may seem to some but i have worked in manufacturing facilities, in the office and on the floor of both a UAW and a Non-unionized Manufacturing facilities.

Sorry guys, i forgot to add "kick cube in the junk" as last possible option

you'd be surpized how many people will state their opinions on topics such as these that have no knowlege or experience of the environment.

I voted...

As a regular worker, I have worked in a non union stamping plant (as a grunt running the big presses).

I've been in the auto industry about 12 years, 11 as engineering, so i'm non union, although I've done time in plants and other union facilities.

I've also been a union member from other jobs.

first hand experience does not always equate, or transfer to knowledge.

similarily, knowledge can be obtained from other sources than first hand knowledge.

as an example, a marine sniper knows how to kill someone long before they actually do so...

Your poll should also include folks that have experience in the environment even if they weren't a line worker.

Nevered worked on the line though, but one brother does and the other is a Millwright.

My dad worked 33 year on a press and made me promise I wouldn't work on the line.

Not totally sure this qualifies, but I worked for just under a year as a Sergeant of Security at GM's Pontiac Powertrain Plant/Office on Joslyn (back when they were getting ready to tear down the Engine Plant.)

Chasing people out of locked up areas constantly and getting my life threatened if I turned them in didn't leave me ANY respect for the UAW. Oh I know there are people that do their job well but too many bad apples spoiled my opinions.

I have worked in union and non union job shops, anywhere from machine rebuilder, mold maker, cnc machininst, tool & die to automation toolmaker(current). In the non-union shops I also did welding, driving, changing light bulbs, etc.

I worked in a non-union affiliated shop for a couple weeks once because I know the owner and he needed a hand to get through a real busy time, so i helped out and made some decent cash.

Other than that i selected the last option, just cuz im retarded.

How long ago was this? And what product line did you work on?

I did the EOL eCATS launches at Mich Truck, Flat Rock AAI, St Thomas, Oakville, Wixom, Twin Cities, and some maintainance at Wayne and Dearborn Truck.

I guess that also answers the question of whether or not I've been in a UAW environment. Combined, I probably have about a year inside the plant. Many a 14 hour shift was spent inside of a contractor-hostile environment.
