Default Misc For Sale Rules

Please don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be a smart ass but I think the rules need to be updated for the Misc For Sale area. I posted a Wii for sale last night and found out since I already had it listed on Ebay that I was breaking the rules. I was just trying to let the members know that I had it listed and I would waive the shipping if they wanted it or only charge them the actual amount if they wanted it shipped. I checked out the rules for that catagory and it doesn't say anything about adding a link to the ebay listing. Just figured I would mention it.

It has always been common courtesy here to put stuff up for sale here prior to ebaying it. But that was when there were 5-6 hundred members.

There are so many members here now, that I'm not sure if this matters anymore.

I guess its open for discussion.

Selling something on eBay and linking it to GL is not selling something on GL. Other wheeling sites will delete the thread without explanation or actually suspend you for stuff like that (like the uber-Nazi Classifieds Forums on Jeepforums.com).

You could have listed it with a price of $340 without ever having mentioned eBay in the thread at all. I pointed this out and still don't understand why you didn't just edit the thread so it would remain available to GL. Instead, you took your ball and went home - and now its a problem?

The reason its not in the Marketplace Rules yet is because I try not to take it upon myself to edit ClarkstonCracker's threads whenever I feel like it. New rules aren't usually instantaneously implemented. I've been slowly rolling this one out for about a month or so now as a guideline that eBay and Craigslist links should be added after approxomately a week after activity has trailed off in the thread. So far, you may be the only person that has actually taken exception to the rule. Normally, eBay/Craigslist links and 'feeler" threads without prices are just moved to the Pub and a solution is not even offered.

I agree with CC that its a matter of common courtesy. Selling something on eBay or Craigslist is not "selling something on GL". However, I disagree with the sentiment that it may not matter anymore. If anything, its becoming a lot more frequent as the site has grown. N00bs sometimes come here and throw up a link right after registering.

That has been super annoying. Somebody whos selling their 35,000 rubicon will sign up, make a thread called "JEEP FOR SALE" then have a link to an ebay auction.
