Is this an informal poll to inquire about the average GL4x4 user's knowledge of projectors, or can we anticipate to participate in a lively discussion about which projector will fit your performance and budget needs?

I'm on frickin' pins and needles. Pins and needles.

input is from standard VGA. From what I can see in the Governor catalog I'm allowed to order from I'm not going to get much more than 2500 lumens it looks like.

Yes, a lively debate can ensure as well.

There's plenty of crappy projectors out there in that price range that will be fine for work....I think you'll want at LEAST 1,000 lumens to make sure you can see it in most applications...no s-video, hi-def, etc. needed. Epson's are fine for most office applications.

For a conference room 2500 will do you ok. When comparing look closely at contrast ratio, that's the ratio of Blacks to whites (insert racist joke here). The higher the contrast ratio, the higher the perceived brightness will be.

Panasonic makes good projectors

would a 1100:1 contrast 1500 lumen projector be better than a 600:1 2000 lumen for instance?

You'd have to see them side by side.

an ANSI Lumen is a subjective measure of brightness and manufacturers will skew the resultss in their favor. i.e. if taken the PROPER way it's a true reading, but can be manipulated.

The best way is to get a demo side by side and compare.

out of those 2 (depending on manufacturer) I would get the 1500 lumen one as it would have higher colour definition

This little diddy is a down & dirty DLP projcetor with your VGA/HDB15 connector. Bulb service interval is ~2500hrs. The "low" lamp setting is still very bright. Replacement bulbs are "affordable" at under $400ea. LINK

I guess that brings up a better question. Which lamp type is best for long life low cost?
