Default tranny filter change???

i got into changing my tranny filter today. got the bolts off the pan, and broke the pan off, but there is a tube that comes from the pan up to the engine compartment, which is the tranny fluid tube with the dipstick. i looked through both my haynes and chiltons books, and they dont mention anything about it. because of the tube, i cant yank the pan all the way and get to the tranny. how do i disconnect it so i can get to the tranny, or how do i get around it? thanks for the help.
oops sorry, 1991 XJ, 4.0, 242 t-case, and the aw-4(i think, now im doughting myself)

It should pull out or there might be a bracket that's holding the bottom of the tube in the tranny.

i can't see anything in the pan where the tube goes in, but the tube is two piece, with the bottom piece from the pan rotating free from the upper piece, it just won't slide off

ah, well, then i guess i get to drop it as one piece, altho i do have to say, what a sh**** design. every other tranny is just drop the pan, filter,go. i wonder why jeep put the fill tube into the pan...anyone who is an engineer know why this is?

can you say "cost savings"? I think they had a good design once and then some shit head said I can save you .03 but make it harder to work on...of course Jeep said Go for it!

i gotta say, jeep engineering really freagin sucks at times...oh well, i guess i tackle it tomorrow. since there isnt a filter, rather a screen, and that was changed 35000k ago, should i just clean off the surfaces and install the gasket, and just call it quits for now?
also, the tranny was flushed a month and a half ago, just thought it would be pretty easy to change the screen
