Default d44/d60 difference?

i'm going to go look at a 79 F250. whats the easiest way to tell the differince between a front dana 60 and a 44? the rear is a full floater so i'm thinkin it should be a 60

The front will have much bigger hubs. I wouldn't caount on it being a 60 front just because the rear is a full floater either. Unless it is a camper special, I would expect a d44 up front.

Look for king pins instead of ball joints. The king pins have caps that hold them on with four bolts, pass and drive. Also the diff cover will be huge, way bigger than a d44.

Look at the steering u-joints. They will be huge compared to a D44. All '79 F250s have full float rear axles.

Um, how about this:

The Rear axle IS a dana 60.

So......... if the front differential looks the same, its a 60.

If the front axle doesn't look the same size, its a 44. There's about 2" difference in the size of the diff cover.

Silly..

Camper Specials didn't get Dana 60s on their own. Sno Fighters did.

I've tried giving that advice in the past, and you wouldn't believe the amount of people who could forget the size if a D60 cover right after they looked at it. :tonka:
