lock right install help please

I have 1989 Jeep Cherokee with a dana 30 vac disconect and can't get the c clip for my inner shaft in. When the locker is insalled the cross shaft is in the way. I have 4.10 gears and becuase of the thickness of those gears I can't insert or remove the cross pin with the ring gear installed. Thus making it difficult to install the c clip. Now I know you can eliminate the vac disconect but I rather not do this at this point. Has anyone gone through this before? My directions are not very clear on how this would be done. Please help. Thanks

I'd go to a solid shaft and ditch the disco.

his jeep is in my garage, he just bought the posi lock cable to replace the vacumn lines. So i'm sure he doesn't want to switch to a solid right shaft. Are the loc rights designed not to be used with the 2-peice shafts?

I've never done one of these before, but I do recall reading somewhere where the ring gear needed a very slight amount of one of the teeth ground off, just enough to clearance the center pin. Might be worth a search.

You may need a new cross shaft with specific D30's. Can't recall what ones. Call lock rite, they will help.

If you really think about it, where is the shaft going to go? If it moves it's either going to hit the cross shaft in the diff or hit the outer axle shaft.

Plus (little known fact) they redesigned the Lock-Right and they don't have the recessed slot to install the c-clips.

You would think they would include this in the directions for the locker. I knew it wouldn't go anywhere I just didn't want to damage the locker.
