Talking How corporate saves money

Heres a brief on how a big corporate saves a little money . This is a true story from today .

5:30 am i get a call for a consumers power truck stuck . The caller says we need a big one out there they have a spec 89 hooked to a spec 50 and cant move it . Thats all greek to me so i ask what size truck is stuck . The caller has no idea .

On arrival with the 35 ton Ken Worth i find a Ford F 550 stuck on the edge of the road , thats like sending an elephant to pull a piss ant .

Speaking to the drive i find its a big savings for them to dispatch out of Grand Rapids instead of locally , Of course the driver has been stuck for 4 hours due to there dispatching plus there paying HD rates for a tow truck when my Dodge could have done the job . Great savings plan eh !!!

Mean while they call in a whole tree trimming crew to remove 1 tree . 2 trucks and 4 guys :tonka:

Driver is off duty at 6 am , he is informed to return to base and another 2 man 2 truck crew will get the power back on instead of paying him 1 hour OT to finish up . Seems the driver is so impressed with this he ties me up for about 35 minutes shooting the breeze , now whos paying OT Biotch .

If i ran my company like a corporate i dont think i could survive 6 months .

Here's how corporate saves money. They have me work incredible hours and accomplish incredible feats, then at the last minute change my ranking from a high to a medium so they don't have to bump my pay much for next year.

I think I'll give them what they paid for next year.

funny marv. My uncles family owns a really large very popular security company (residential, commerical, smoke alarms, vaccum systems, home theatres) anyways they monitor 50,000 homes. They waste so much money and are very successful. I think if your business just gets big enough in some niches you can be self sustaining almost no matter how poorly it is run in terms of effeciency.

I just witnessed a company having to spend approx. $200,000 in excess labor charges because they wanted to save $25,000 having a booth built (and it was in New york, over a weekend, and a holiday :) ), not too mention my OT, 2 extra days in a hotel, flight change fee etc.

If you think that is bad, look at public schools. The distric that i work for(as a lifeguard)passed a bond a few years back for like 100mill plus. With that money they built this(http://www.huronvalley.k12.mi.us/dis...on%20Page.aspx) along with upgrades to the other schools in the district. Well the schools got screwed. The pool facilities are only 1.5 years old and are already falling apart. None of the floors are sloped correctly, the water features work half ass, the $200k lighting system that the leisure pool has doesnt work at all, 1 of the 2 diving boards is broken, the $1200 automatic pool cleaning maching is broken, and there's more ontop of that. The company that built the facilities(barton malo) wont take responsibilty for their mistakes, the bosses dont know how to fix anything/opperate anything, so they ask me to do so(which im glad to do, everything that ive repaired works better than the day that it was installed) and if it breaks i dont care. Ahwell its an EASY job, and i do nothing.

Well today we had a heating guy install a new boiler pump. Are great station Caption was standing there watching him and he installed it backwards. This is a three pump boiler and of course it locked up. Well the guy looked at it for like 3 hours and the guys went out on a run. So the Capt started looking at it then he got back from the run and found the problem. Well the guy got pissed that he couldn't find the problem and made a big deal abou it. The guys boss had to come to the station and because the guy was a dumass the job was free, we paid for the parts. If the guy would have been cool about the screw up, no big deal, we all screw every now and then. And you wonder what companies are thinking having people working for them like that??

Ill go out on a limb and say gman ment big corporations, this is the stuff the dilbert comic strip is about and office space the movie.

To much middle management, no accountablity from top to bottom, people getting bonus's for saving money in some deptartment by wasting money money in another and shooting themselves in the foot, pure sillyness that a small company like mine or gmans could never get away with. Their is no one looking at the big picture just a bunch of bean counters with tunnel vision who only see one thing.

You can thank the union contracts that specify exactly how many people and how much equipment must be sent out no matter how big or small the job is. Marv mentioned the 2 trucks and 4 guys. That would be specified by contract. Even though they know it is only 1 single tree, if they send out 1 guy in one truck, they will waste 6 weeks in meetings with the union after the grievances are filed. It's just cheaper in the long run to send out all the extra people and waste a few hundred dollars vs. tying up for weeks on end at least 6 people in management, the union reps, the guy who filed the compaint, the negotiator, the ombudsman, the secretary, 12 lawyers, and a partridge that was pissed off that they cut down his pear tree.
