Default Parting out '87 MJ

LOCATED IN MASON/EATON RAPIDS MI

***POSTING FOR A FRIEND***

Hey all. Got an '87 MJ that I don't want anymore. It has the 4.0HO, BA10 5-speed, 231 t-case. Runs fine BUT, tranny and t-case are out of it. D30 front with Posi-lok actuator, D35 rear with brand new shoes and wheel cylinders. Brand new gas tank and straps.

I haven't noticed the engine smoking ever but it does leak oil from either the rear main or the valve cover (I replaced the cover gasket but still leaks.)

The truck is in pieces because the trans and t-case have been removed but it is rollable so it can be moved.

Body is rough, glass is good. Interior is eh. Has a roll bar with light mounts which might be factory, it looks like it is a perfect fit. Mounts to the floor corners at the front of the bed and then to the front of the wheel wells with torx bolts. Currently it has lights on the bar but I was thinking of keeping them but we will see (I don't want to take the whole harness out of the vehicle.)

It also has a moonvisor (one light wire broken)

The center dash panel vent is gone.

There are nice stainless nerf bars too but whoever installed them didn't do a very good job and the bolts pulled out so they are in the bed. They could probably look new with some steel wool.

The truck has a lift of some kind too. There are trailmaster shocks on it and the sway bar has a drop bracket. There WERE 32x11.50x15 tires on it when I got it and they fit great. Now it has the 31x10.50x15 tires that I want to keep.

I want to keep these parts (unless you really want them):
Front Bumper
front brakes (I am gonna swap brakes with my cherokee)
wheels and tires

Just ask for what you want and make an offer, I am gonna junk it if nobody wants it.

how much would you want for the whole thing as-is, how many miles on it, and are you sure it's a 4.0l HO? HO's didn't come out til 91.

Not True 1987 Was The First Ho. Now It Is Not The Same As A 91 Or Newer Ho Motor. 87 Had The First Ho. Yes It Is A 4.0l And I Think He Wants $500 For The Whole Truck. Interior Is Awesome It Has A Roll Bar Plus A Set Of Nerf Bars.

There Is A Slide Show Under The The Same Title On Michigan Jeepers With Lots Of Pics.

they made the 4.0 starting in 87, often referred to as "renix" as a combination of renault/bendix, companies that made various drive train control parts for these trucks. this model was offered through 90. in 91, the 'HO' model came out with a different computer control system (made by chrysler) and different head design, along with a significantly different power band which increased output (thus High Output or HO), but at a higher rpm. this is also evidenced in that 87-90 4.0L badges made no reference to high output, where as in 91 the badges on, say, the back of a cherkoee started saying high output beneath 4.0L. Eventually, jeep fazed out the 'high output' part of the badge for a cleaner look. not trying to clutter up the post, but it does make a difference if someone wants the engine.

Still got truck. I have 87 comanche in desperate need of an electrical makeover. I have an 87 renix 4.0 so I believe your wiring harness should work. However may want whole truck for parts all around. I'm located in newaygo, mi

Thanks RYBO for posting this.

Well, the truck has the 4.0 HO emblem. It was there when I bought it so I have no clue.

Just to make sure everybody knows, the tranny and t-case are not attached to the truck. I pulled them out to have rebuilt but I found a Cherokee and bought that instead.

The engine ran fine when I took the trans out, but I think the rear main is leaking. Either that or the valve cover.

The truck is a short bed but it is rusted out over both wheel wells and the tailgate will not open without a screwdriver. The inside of the bed is in great shape.

Front bumper is now gone, but I have the "homemade" one that I took off the cherokee.

Has new plugs, wires, cap and rotor.

No windshield washer motor.

I put about $900 into this truck before I realized that it wasn't worth putting any more into.

Any questions please let me know.

post up a pic of the engine from the top if you'd like it identified. the engine could be swapped and a badge slapped on, but more likely a differant emblem/tailgate? anyways, you can tell by the intake tube if it's a 4.0 renix or 4.0 HO.
